THE HEAD INSTRUCTOR
The Head Instructor of Wing Tsun School of Self Defence Queanbeyan is Anton Levanat .
Anton has over 35 years of martial arts experience. Starting with amateur boxing then turning to Goshin Ryu Karate and Tae Kwon Do, before studying Wing Chun under Jim Fung who ran a Wing Chun school in Canberra in the 1970's. As his interest in Wing Chun grew Anton began to read various articles in martial arts magazines regarding this style and various masters that were teaching the art in Australia. As the articles Anton was reading contained conflicting information regarding Wing Chun his curiosity led him to William Cheung a famous Wing Chun Master who was teaching in Melbourne. Again there were marked differences in William Cheung's interpretation of the art. Having read the book "Wing Tsun Kuen" by Grandmaster Leung Ting Anton's interest and curiosity grew bigger. In 1986 on his way home from Europe Anton stopped in Hong Kong and witnessed a Wing Tsun class at the International Wing Tsun headquarters. From then on Anton was totally convinced that this version of the art is the "real deal". As soon as he got back to Australia he wrote a letter to Grandmaster Leung Ting asking if he would accept him as his student. Grandmaster Leung Ting replied positively and in 1987 Anton travelled to Hong Kong to train privately with the Grandmaster. In 1989 after coming back from Hong Kong Anton opened up the first Wing Tsun school in Australia representing the International Wing Tsun Association.
In 1994 Anton was appointed the Headman of the Australian branch with permission to operate schools throughout Australia. Since 2003 Anton has been an independent instructor teaching a self-defence program based on the concepts and techniques that he has learnt. Please note that Anton and the Queanbeyan Wing Tsun School is no longer in any way affiliated with the International Wing Tsun Association nor any of it's branches.
To further broaden his knowledge Anton also attended various weapons seminars and trained with world renowned masters Dan Inosanto (Kali and Jeet Kune Do) and Hock Hockheim (Escrima). Anton also trained with Marti Rajamaki (who is a Kali instructor and Wing Tsun student of renowned master Emin Boztepe). Recently Anton was in contact with Master Emin Boztepe and a seminar was held at the school to introduce Master Emin's EBMAS system.
